Eavestrough and Downspout Planning Checklist
Describe what you observe before deciding on a drainage solution. An eavestrough estimate should identify the sections and components involved and the proposed work.
Observe from a safe location
Note where water overflows or leaks and how often it happens. Photos from the ground can help show the issue. Avoid climbing onto a wet roof or ladder to investigate.
Record the downspout layout
Identify where existing downspouts discharge and any pooling you have observed nearby. A drainage concern may involve more than the eavestrough itself, so describe the surrounding conditions too.
Ask about the complete system
Review the sections, downspouts, outlets, attachments, removal, and cleanup included in the proposed work. Ask whether a change to the discharge point needs local review or coordination with other work.
Coordinate exterior projects
Mention upcoming roofing or siding work when requesting an estimate. Discuss the sequence and scope so that the same area does not need to be revisited unnecessarily.
